100% wild. 100% fair chase. 100% low fence.
The Pitchfork Ranch's hunting program began in September, 1998. Properties include a 165,000-acre headquarters near Guthrie, Texas, and over 8,000 acres near Waurika, Oklahoma. We offer lease hunting on a per-acre basis for whitetail deer, mule deer, quail, dove, turkey, waterfowl, wild hogs and varmints. Terrain varies, from relatively flat mesquite pastures, scrub oak thickets and rugged canyon in Texas to wooded creeks and fertile bottomland in Oklahoma.
The ranch wildlife management program complements its hunting program. The overall condition of all game animals is closely monitored. Game harvests are strictly regulated. Habitat improvement and supplemental feeding, especially during times of stress, are continuing components of our management plan.
Texas Tech is doing a five-year study led by Brad Dabbert at the Pitchfork Ranch on different methods to increase chick survival in the Shinnery pastures.
Since 1998, we have collected data on 45,000 Bobwhite quail. Mule deer are located in the canyon and cedar country on the southwest portion of the ranch; we also hold good numbers of mature whitetail deer. Throughout our season, which typically runs October – February, we work to maintain healthy buck-to-doe ratios and strive to harvest bucks 5.5 years and older.
