The Pitchfork has produced millions of barrels of oil in the prolific Tannehill Sands.

With its favorable location on the northeast flanks of the Midland Basin of West Texas in King and Dickens County, the Pitchfork has produced millions of barrels of oil since the first discovery in 1980. Since then, more than 500 wells have been drilled on the ranch, with more than 200 completed in the Tannehill sands at depths averaging 4,000 feet.

Initial flow rates on some wells have been in excess of 200 barrels per day. The larger Tannehill fields have been or will be successfully waterflooded. About 25,000 acres are held by production, with additional acreage held by active oil and gas leases or options.

Several small to mid-sized oil and gas companies have present operations on the ranch.

Deeper pay zone potential may exist below the Tannehill. In addition, the Pitchfork owns mineral interests in nearby Knox County (the former Ellis Ranch), with oil production since 2012 from the Caddo Reef at depths averaging 5,700 feet, and potential in the Strawn formation.  A significant amount of acreage is unleased in all Pitchfork areas.
